Walking Beam Scale Brochure
The LoadMaxx Walking Beam Refuse Scale is specifically designed for refuse vehicles with a leaf spring steer axle suspension and a Hendrickson walking beam drive axle suspension. The scale features an in-dash backlit LCD display, the LoadMaxx scale module, a deflection sensor for the steer axle and one each for the left and right drive axle walking beams. It also includes necessary cables, mounting brackets, and all mounting hardware
LoadMaxx provides the operator with a convenient, easy to read in-dash display that shows GVW, payload, steer axle, and drive axle group weights. It’s easy to calibrate in just a few minutes with the user-friendly menu system. The scale can be set to display in pounds or kilograms, and several language options are available. All calibration and setup parameters can be PIN protected to prevent tampering or unauthorized changes.
Air-Weigh’s patented deflection sensor technology measures the flex in axle or beam components and the LoadMaxx scale calculates the corresponding on-the-ground weight for each axle or axle group. Deflection sensors are mounted directly onto the steer axle or drive axle beams and do not interfere with vehicle operation. Unlike load cell type scales, the LoadMaxx scale does not require any modification to the chassis, body, or frame rail attachments.
Special Features
LoadMaxx scales incorporate state-of-the-art hardware and software technology. LoadMaxx offers several innovative features including a standard interface to the J1939 or CAN data bus, an interface to the vehicle J1708 data bus, a serial port, two programmable weight alarm outputs, an interface to an inclinometer, and enhanced self test diagnostics. The J1939 / CAN bus interface allows dash displays and on-board computers to easily obtain weight information for wireless transmission to fleet headquarters or for viewing by the driver in the cab. Two alarm outputs can be used to warn the driver when an axle group weight or GVW exceeds legal limits, or when the load on the steer axle is too small a proportion of the GVW. Reading weights on an incline can result in uneven pressure on a vehicle’s suspension, which affects accuracy. With the inclinometer option for LoadMaxx, the weight display, J1939 outputs, and alarm outputs, are turned off when detecting an incline that will affect weight reading accuracy.Installation
The LoadMaxx Walking Beam Refuse Scale includes an in-dash display module with standard 2” form factor that is mounted directly into the dash in an existing hole or knockout, or a new hole can be punched in a convenient location. If desired, the display can also be mounted above or below the dash with an optional mounting pod. A LoadMaxx scale ECU is mounted underneath or behind the dash, and this is where all of the axle sensor cables, in-dash display cable, and vehicle power and data bus connections are made. A bracket is mounted to the steer axle with OEM chassis adhesive and a deflection sensor is bolted into the bracket. The steer axle deflection sensor cable is then routed up to the LoadMaxx ECU. J-brackets are plug welded to both the left and right walking beams, and deflections sensors are installed in each. Cables from each of the deflection sensors are routed up to the LoadMaxx ECU under the dash. Power is tapped from any ignition hot source.
Operation
To use the LoadMaxx scale, you first calibrate it by comparison to an in-ground scale. A simple menu structure guides you through entering both empty and loaded weights into the scale. Once entered, the user can also set up display language, printers, and other features. The calibration and set up settings can then be protected by selecting PIN protection. Using PIN protection prevents anyone from changing the settings unless they first enter the PIN. Once calibrated, the operator simply rolls to a stop on flat and level ground, and reads the LoadMaxx display. The operator can select GVW and Payload, or individual steer and drive axle weights.Ordering Information
